A software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider had different payment models with its customers: monthly, quarterly or annually recurring revenue. Customers had different start dates, pricing and term durations. To produce a rolling monthly revenue forecast, the company’s finance department would gather sales team inputs and then manually cut, copy and paste values by month on a customer-by-customer basis. This tedious process was repeated each month, was prone to errors, and was only accurate for a given point in time since forecast inputs were constantly being updated by the sales team.
Approach
We established a direct connection to the sales funnel inputs via API and wrote custom code to automatically generate a monthly revenue forecast. With a single click, the automated revenue forecast could now be generated at any time reflecting the latest inputs. We also imported other relevant data (e.g. stage, region, industry, etc.) in a pivot table format, so different filters and groupings were easily customizable by the user.
